Yes, it gets cleared up when the file system is taken care of but it has been happening (root full) on a regular basis for several weeks indicating that, as you say, the basic system work is not being done. That is a strong indicator of a basic policy decision: "9-5 and lets not spend money on the basics of reliability, just do the minimum and hope the folks who don't care about such esoterica as ftp, mailing news, shell accounts, etc. stay happy enough to keep their $24.95 coming in. The ones who know and care just cost more money to support anyway. Let them go."
