Warning! Please note that the content below was last updated on 14 October 1996; the content of this page is being preserved as-is for posterity. The only changes made since that time were (a) to update the page markup to current standards, (b) to update internal links as hosting platforms changed or to point to archive.org when available, and (c) to obscure email addresses located throughout these pages (except for USENET postings). Needless to say, many of the links to external sites are no longer functional after 20+ years.

I am sorry to say, but for the time being, ShadowMAC is not accessable
via ftp nor the web, and we have no idea when it will again be up... the
following provides an outline.

ShadowMAC has been trying to change from the previous ftp package to
ftpd, but we have experienced numerous problems with ftpd, well we now
have a copy that is supposed to address the problems we experienced, and
in the midst of configuring it, etc... the physical location of
ShadowMAC experienced a literally hostle takeover which not only
disrupted ShadowMAC's configuring work, but also took down the whole ISP
from interaction with any of its accounts (one of which is my personal
account).

My ISP is (and maybe WAS) Winternet.com, it was put together by Mike
Horwath with some financial backing by two others, making all three of
them equal partners (but it takes FAR more to become the largest ISP in a
state like Minnesota than only some financial support), well not too long
ago, the other two kicked Mike out and the Winternet crew walked out
with him (check www.winternet.com for SOME select info on this),
Winternet is/was the largest Minnesota ISP so this was a major takeover,
and no one except the three partners know exactly what is happening or
even the truth about why this happened, all the rest of us can do is observe
the fall out.

So all in all things are severely screwed up, not only am I looking at
alternatives for myself, but the ShadowMAC crew and system is also doing so.

We apologize for any inconveinance to anyone wishing access to our
site, and we hope to have it functioning again as soon as possible, and
we will post a notice again when we are back up.

Even the admin of ShadowMAC only have the basic of services available
currently... like Email and News.
